Ahh February, the Month of Love

February is arguably the No.1 month all year to celebrate love and romance. Retailers also look forward to Valentine’s Day each year too. According to the National Retail Federation*, consumer’s in the U.S. will spend around $26 Billion this year. This is up from almost $24 Billion from last year.So where does all that money go? 57% is spent on candy and 40% on greeting cards. Flowers rein in at 37% while 32% will be enjoying an evening out wining and dining. Don’t forget the lucky 21% receiving jewelry too.

Super Bowl LVII

Football fans around the nation and indeed around the world will be tuning in to watch this years Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles being played at State Farm Stadium, Arizona.But when was the first Super Bowl? The first Super Bowl took place on January 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The first Super Bowl was played between the AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL champion Green Bay Packers. The Packers would win the game by a score of 35-10. Green Bay would go on to win the Super Bowl again the following year, this time against the Oakland Raiders of the AFL.

How will your appetite fair this Super Bowl?According to Restaurantware.com, one in seven Americans will order take-out. That is around 48 Million Amercians.

60% of all that take-out will be pizza. But let’s not forget those delicious chicken wings either. 1.25 Billion chicken wings will be eaten, resulting in 7% of annual chicken wing sales. 11.2 Million pounds of potato chips and 8.2 Million pounds of tortilla chips will be purchased for the Super Bowl. But that falls short to avocados. Yes, avocados are a fan-favorite too with 139.4 Million pounds purchased.

But it’s not all take-out. 10% of Americans will be out grilling too, making Super Bowl second to 4th of July. What’s watching the big game without a few snacks? How’s 3.8 Million pounds of popcorn and 2.5 Million pounds of nuts sound? Then we have the liquid 🙂 325.5 Million gallons of beer is expected to be consumed. That equates to around 50 Million cases costing around $10.8 Billion in sales. Let’s not forget $2.27 Million on soda sales too. Please drink responsibly and enjoy the game…
